Many of our birds are just migrating through. However, some have decided to make Cochise Stronghold
Ranch their permanent home! Our guess it the lure of running water, cool shade and copious amounts of seed & sugar-water!
Each spring brings all species in larger numbers. One curious visitor in November 2010 was a Green Heron eyeing the
koi & goldfish in the pond. Maybe he had gotten a recommendation from the Great Blue Heron pair that feasted on
many of our larger koi the year before!

Speaking of BIRDERS!!!! In 2009
we welcomed our friends from Wings Over Willcox to tour the ranch, with Doug sharing our current history and earlier
history of Apache Chief Cochise. We are VERY sure it was the first time this ranch has ever seen a school bus load of
Birders & History Buffs. WOW groups have returned each January since. Enjoy photos & comments
on our RANCH VISITORS page & go to the official web site and sign up for next year!

Birders come to the Cochise Stronghold
from all over the world. Southeastern Arizona is well known for it's 500+ bird species making it the premier birding
area in the United States. Check out our spottings just here on the ranch, we have counted as many as 60 species in one day! May seems to be the best month for viewing. We will continue to post our sightings on the ranch, so check back often!
Big Baby can be seen around the Ranch everyday. We've had two Red-Tailed Hawk chicks in the nest in
2012 & 2013
